NO, on my 86 and on the 2000 I rode it is not a oil light, it is a light to indicate if the sidestand is down, the sidestand has a main spring and and a smaller weaker spring to activate a smal rotary switch under the left frame
mine was missing when I bought my bike as well, I just got a cheap spring from the hardware store ... no 20$ suzuki spring will do the job better.... Hope this helps.
